Lenses and Photography Vocabulary

I would use a telephoto lens to take photos in a tack meet  at night.
I would use a prime lens to take a photo during a  volleyball game.
I would use a wide-angle lens to take a photo to a school band or a track team.

Depth of Field (shallow and wide)-shadow big opening ,wide- small opening
Light (angle and intensity)- the light of the photo
Shadows Diffusion- absences of light, opposite of light , they impact photography you need to be aware of them. Softening the light, changing the intensity of the light
Exposure-to lighter - to dark or perfect exposure.
Aperture (f-stop)- how we get the shadows
Shutter speed- ow fast we need to go to stop the subject. if you don't stop the action you get a blurry photo. If you want to take a subject that is moving you need to increase your shutter speed.
ISO-sensitivity of the sensor to the light, like a piece of rice

Part II

Magazines Part II

1. Earlier Magazine Covers
They were kind of like books with a title and a little picture. There wasn't really big words to say what they were talking about or to draw you in and little description. The book design and the table of contents design lasted from 1700s to the 1800s. Then they started using symbolic covers but it never really reviled what was in the magazine. Instead, it symbolized what the magazine itself was about. Some just didn't have a cover and started it on the front page. Then they started using cover lines.

2. The Post Cover
1890s through the 1960s something that was really popular was just putting a big picture on there. Most of the big pictures that were on the magazine sometimes didn't even relate to what was in the magazine.  They just wanted to make a 'good mood'. The covers were just artsy. Then they started using actual pictures people take and put them as the cover.

3. Pictures Married to Type
Then it was a title with the models face over it. It was usually a full body pose that had an unusual posture. And cover lines all around the picture not covering it up but just around it to wear you see both the picture and the words. There are primary and secondary cover lines. They put the cover lines were they thought. A lot of it appeared in color now.

4. In the Forest of Words
Now, cover lines were equally important as cover art. Some of the cover lines were bigger then the magazine title itself. You have to have a good cover and good cover lines because sometimes its not enough to have us one. Now its just fashion and celebrities.

Magazines

Magazines

1.)Early Magazine Covers-In the 1700s the magazines were different because they only had an opening page to a title and a table of contents. They use to model them after the cover of books then cover lines began to appear within such generic covers in the 1800s.

2.)The Poster Cover-The covers that they made were looked as if they were printed to be framed and to hang it on the wall it did not look like if it wasnt going to be a magazine. The magazine have traveled far from all the visual art poster.

3.)Pictures Married To Type-On magazines when cover lines appear  it does not come out as good as you want it to come out. Most of the cover lines on the magazines identify the names of contributors and not the topic of the article.

4.)In the Forest Of Words-Some of the magazine covers of this period contain cover lines that are actually larger than the name of the magazine and a really powerful pictures rarely enough For the covers of this period.Posters covers appeared mainly on music magazines.

Slow Shutter Speed
1. If you were assigned to shoot at Blue and Gold night, which was earlier this month, what shutter speeds do you think you would have to shoot at the following events that night I would like you to answer the question for the following two situations:

a.) the dunking booth - fast
b.) the food eating contest - fast
c.) the rock climbing wall - fast
d.) someone working at a booth -fast
e.) the DJ/MC working at the middle of the circle - fast
f.) the Diamonds performance. - fast
Towards the end when there is no sun and has gotten dark enough that you can't see from one end of the courtyard to the other.

Self Portrait and Portraits Part II AND Rules of Photography Part II

Self Portrait and Portraits Part II

Tips-
  1. Think about your motivation and emotions: Blankly staring at the camera rarely gets good results. Be silly, don’t be afraid to over-act. The worst that can happen is that you fill up your memory card with useless photos; but you might also find yourself with a proper gold-nugget of a self portrait.
  2. Use props such as if your a mom or dad and you are a painter, or play an instrument.
  3. Use a mirror.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Environmental portraits

I choose both of this photos for my favorites as environmental portraits because for the first one of the pregnant women she is holding her belly showing emotion and her son is showing emotion towards her and both are smiling. For the second photo i liked it because it was outside and the contrast of the Photoshop is perfect and the baby is sitting on a blanket outside in the sun smiling and you can see the photo well and she stands out because she is showing rule of thirds

Photography self portrait
These two photos i liked for photography self portrait because for the first photo the women has another photo of her to complete the photo and different emotions. I like the second photo because of the way the little girl is focusing in class and doesn't see the camera taking the photo of her and continues paying attention

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Casual photos
I choose these two photos for my casual photo because im sure like its an everyday thing for this baby to have his pacifier in his mouth and just have that look on his face and hes not dressed up to go anywhere and is just dressed as if its a everyday thing. The second photo i choose is its a causal portrait because the guy is dressed as an everyday outfit and it doesn't look like he is going out or anything so they both are common in being casual and having the everyday outfit looks.

American Soldier slide show and captions (review)

A. I think the most powerful photo to me is this one, #47. He's saying goodbye to his loved ones, it shows a lot of emotion the way they are hugging each other like he's never coming back, like they'll never see him again.
B.
Set #1:He's at home in Denver : photo's #1-10
Set #2: At Basic Training: photo's #11-50
Set #3: In Iraq: photo's #51-70
Set#4: Back in Denver: photo's #71-83
I think the most the powerful set is when he leaves to basic training and has to say all his goodbye's. So Set #2 & 3.

Underneath each photo is the caption that ran in the Denver Post

A: Ian is on the main one in the photos because he is the main character that they are showing in this story.
B:he captions enhance to the photographs because they already know what they are talking about.
CAPTIONS-
1.) Ian got thrown a t-shirt so they could make the t-shirt into his bag.
2.) Ian got shaved by this man named Tom Abner and it says that he has shaved millions of peoples heads.
3.) Ian and the rest of his team had to carry their bags cause they did something wrong.
A.) Other features that enhance the photographs is that they know that they are talking about Ian.
B.) Videos are better than photographs because in the video they are actually speaking and telling you what is happening and on the photographs you have to be reading so you could know what is happening.

C.) Photos are better than videos because in videos you might not catch everything that is saying and on the photo you would not miss nothing.

"Hiding" he finally has the courage to go outside and hide from his nightmare, that's what he gets for sleeping to much. In a leafy forest, or a big bush, he must hide from the thing he fears most.
5:
A. How do these other features enhance the photographs?
They make it clear on what the photo is enhance.
B. In what ways are videos better than photographs? Provide an example from the Denver Post Web site. The videos show more than what the pictures show us.
C. In what ways are photos better than videos?  The photos don't take as long as the videos and you can see the caption so they tell you the story.
